Why is NTC Temperature Sensor Used in BMS Battery Management System for Temperature Monitoring?

Abnormal operating temperature of EV battery packs can easily accelerate aging, and in severe cases, it may cause electrolyte decomposition or even thermal runaway accidents, Therefore, BMS battery management system is needed to conduct intelligent temperature monitoring of battery packs. In this process, the BMS will use EXSENSE high-temperature resistance NTC temperature sensors as key front-end components to monitor the junction temperature of the EV battery packs in real time, assist the BMS to make timely adjustments, prevent the battery from overheating or undercooling, ensure the performance of the battery packs, extend service life.
To achieve accurate temperature monitoring, the installation locations of the NTC temperature sensors need to be fully covered to ensure the integrity of temperature monitoring. First of all, on the surface of the battery cell, it is necessary to install an EXSENSE temperature sensor to obtain its real-time temperature, which can prevent safety issues such as thermal runaway of the battery cell. Secondly, the BMS module busbar is equipped with NTC, which can monitor the temperature of the connection part, and detect local overheating caused by poor contact in time to ensure the stable connection and power transmission between modules. In addition, the NTC temperature sensor is used in the coolant pipeline to monitor the temperature difference between the coolant inlet and outlet, so as to evaluate the cooling system heat dissipation efficiency and ensure the effective operation of the system.
In order to achieve the smooth operation of the battery packs under complex working conditions, the BMS uses the excellent electrical performance of the EXSENSE NTC temperature sensor to build a solid safety barrier for the battery packs:
1. High voltage resistance, avoiding temperature data acquisition errors caused by voltage interference, ensuring the stability of battery temperature monitoring under high voltage conditions, effectively prevent battery failures caused by temperature monitoring errors, and safeguarding the safe operation of the system.
2. Fast response, the thermal response time of EXSENSE temperature sensor is fast, which can capture abnormal temperature changes in real time, prompting the BMS to take protective measures in time to avoid battery performance degradation or safety accidents due to overheating, greatly improves system safety.
3. Customization, in order to meet the diverse needs of BMS manufacturers, EXSENSE supports the customization of NTC temperature sensor specifications and parameters to adapt to different design schemes and improve the overall performance and reliability of the system.
As the "first line of defense" of the BMS battery management system, EXSENSE NTC temperature sensor provides the BMS with a key basis for triggering protection actions by monitoring the temperature changes of the battery packs in real time around the clock. Without the reliable support of the EXSENSE BMS NTC temperature sensor, it will be impossible to accurately judge the junction temperature of the battery packs, and the safety and stability of the battery packs cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, to help the BMS operate efficiently, EXSENSE NTC temperature sensor is indispensable.
